Global War On Terror

Terror:  (from French (18th century): terrorisme under the Terror) is the term commonly used to refer to the calculated use of violence or the threat of violence, against the civilian population, usually for the purpose of obtaining political or religious goals. This is the definition accepted by the FBI. It is not, however, the definition in the British Terrorism Act 2000, which defines terrorism in such a way that it can include attacks on military personnel, or acts not usually considered violent, such as shutting down a website whose views one dislikes. (from Wikipedia the free, on line, encyclopedia)

On September 11, 2001 the United States of America was the direct target of attacks conducted by the Al Qaida terrorist network.  In those attacks over three thousand people - from more than 80 nations - were killed.

I believe a vast majority of people from around the world would consider that, outside of the planes' hijackers, the people killed that day would not be considered 'combatants'.

Terrorism didn't "begin" on 9-11.  Here's a chronology from the U.S. State Department of terrorist activity against the United State since the year of my birth - 1961 through the 9/11 attacks in 2001 and onward through 2003.

September 11th 2001 was a 'long' day.  My personal 'daily' time line is in my personal pages, but here's a chronology of the days events.

The United States of America, and several other nations of the world, have embarked on a Global War on Terror (GWOT - "Gee Wot").   In the United States the two major Operations in the GWOT. are OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM (abroad) and OPERATION NOBEL EAGLE (at home).
